A Small Boy

A Small Boy Yesterday I had stopped at a traffic signal. As I waited for the lights to turn green, a small boy approached me. He was holding a bunch of pens in his hand. He asked me to buy some. I told him I didn't need any. He gave me a beseeching look explaining that they were very cheap. The boy had a sweet innocent face and looked tired of trying to sell his pens. I had seen him going to others but no one bought any of his pens. My friend who was with me suggested to give some money to the boy so he wouldn't bother us. I did give him money by buying two of his pens. I explained to my friend that her suggestion would have been a deterrent to the small boy's effort to earn some money instead of begging for help. She agreed and we went on our way. The boy was trying to help his family by doing something. This I thought was commendable.

A Poor Young Boy and The Dog

A Poor Young Boy and The Dog A few days ago I landed at the Bombay Airport (India) and took a cab to my scheduled destination in South Bombay. I was enjoying the busy traffic with people rushing in every possible directions then we got stranded at a very busy intersection. As we waited for the signal to turn green, my eyes met up with a poor young boy, about 12 years old. He removed a piece of bread from his pocket and took a bite. As he was about to take his next bite, a stray dog wagged his tail looking at him. Without hesitation, he sat down and put the bread on the road for the dog to eat. The dog sniffed the bread and walked away. The boy waited until he was sure the dog was gone then he picked up the bread and ate it! My heart cried and wanted to walk up to the boy but before I could open the door the signal turned Green and our car drove away. I kept thinking about the boy and later during my evening meal I realized that I was thinking of approaching the boy but never did,...

A heart melt real story

A heart melt real story ! In the image above is Shila Ghosh, an 83-year-old woman who lives in Pali in West Bengal, a state in the eastern region of India and is the nation’s fourth-most populous. Her only son had heart ailment and passed away a few months ago. To make ends meet, Shila now works. Every evening, Shila comes from Pali to Kolkata to sell chips. When asked if she has a problem in travelling, she weakly smiled and said: “No, the bus gets me here and my health is not that bad”. Circumstances could have easily forced her to beg but her dignity and respect is everything for her, she is determined to work until the end of her life rather than to beg on the streets. Story courtesy of Sufia Khatoon, A college student in Kolkata   When we go on complaining, let us remember her….. she chose to solve her problems on her own for as they say God helps them those who help themselves. Don’t worry, Shila is being helped. Although she refuses donations and prefers to make ...

Attitude – One of Life’s Choice

Attitude – One of Life’s Choice My wife, Tere, and I purchased a new car in December. Even though we had tickets to fly from California to Houston to visit her family for Christmas, we decided to drive to Texas to break in the new car. We packed the car and took off for a wonderful week with Grandma. We had a wonderful time and stay to the last possible minute visiting with Grandma. On the return trip we needed to get home in a hurry, so we drove straight through — one person driving while the other one slept. After driving in a hard rain for several hours, we arrived home late at night. We were tired and ready for a hot shower and a soft bed. I had the feeling that no matter how tired we were, we should unpack the car that night, but all Tere wanted was the hot shower and soft bed, so we decided to wait and unload the car in the morning. At seven o’clock in the morning, we got up refreshed and ready to unpack the car. When we opened the front door, there was no car in the drivew...

A glass of Milk, paid in Full

A glass of Milk, paid in Full One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?” “You don’t owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.” He said, “Then I thank you from my heart.” As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit. Year’s later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in ...
